Making a Pina Colada

July 29th, 2011

Making a pina colada may be one of the easiest drinks that you make all year long – beyond pouring beer or wine into a glass. All you need is some cubes of pineapple, a can of coconut cream or coconut milk and light rum. You are also going to need a few cups of ice – depending on how many people you are making drinks for.

Crucial Tools for a Pina Colada

One of the must haves for a pina colada is a blender. Without it, you’re not going to get the same frothy goodness that you have grown to love from this cocktail. You should also have a nice glass to pour the drink into. You can always use plastic cups, which is acceptable if you are at a big part, but otherwise a tall glass that has a wide lip should be used to showcase the drink that you made.

This is Our Toy, the Espresso Machine!

June 7th, 2011

My mother came home one day with a big box, wrapped nicely. We were excited to know what’s inside when she revealed that it was actually an espresso machine. Our interests were instantly killed off when we heard of it. Complaints soon filling up the atmosphere and soon, we were actually debating on the rational of getting an espresso machine. A few days later, the box containing the Rancilio Silvia espresso machine was left in a corner collecting dust. Everyone in the house seems to have forgotten about it. None of us bother to place it in the kitchen the day my mum brought it back home as it was bulky and not to mention, our kitchen is already in dire need of extra spaces for utensils storage to begin with. Soon, it became a ‘toy’ for my two little nephews. They had seen on television on how to make espresso with espresso machine. Thus, every single day, without fail, they would make espresso out of red beans, which they assume to be coffee beans with cold water. It is indeed their best espresso machine they ever had as their toy!

Flavors Found in Chardonnay Wine

March 9th, 2011

Chardonnay’s are the top selling wine in the United States. They are a dry white wine that has seen a progressive rise in production over the years. Worldwide, it is the most used grape in the production of all white wines.

Some of the characteristics of Chardonnay wines are that they are highly acidic. It is one of the very few white wine grapes that requires no blending as it has complex, aromatic flavors all on its own. They generally are characterized by fruity flavors such as apple and lemon. Chardonnay’s are often oaked, which is why you will, more often than not, detect hints of woody flavors when drinking a Chardonnay. This oaky taste can be accomplished in many ways. The most common is, of course, to pour the wine into oak casks and let it age. Another method used by wineries is to pour oak essence into the wine. You will also find some wineries that place oak chips into the wine vats and let them soak.

Whichever methods are used when making wine and spirits, it definitely adds significantly to the flavor.
